How can we prevent file loss on an Android connected to Windows 10

Many users have reported a rather serious problem after connecting their Android smartphones to a PC with Windows 10 operating system. After connecting, the files in the storage space where they normally are pictures, video si documents, they disappeared. And they disappear both from the smartphone and from Windows 10, without the possibility of being recovered.

Keeping in mind that smartphones offer generous storage space and holidays and holidays most of the pictures and videos are made with the mobile phone, it would not be nice to lose them all when we try to download them to the computer.

All Android devices can be connected to Windows PC using a USB data cable. When the connection is made between an Android and Windows, Media Transfer Protocol MTP it opens automatically. This being the protocol created by Microsoft for the transfer of media files (pictures and videos) between Android and Windows. Even if it is often a stable protocol, there are situations in which data transfer via MTP leads to data loss. Many users complained that after using the transfer of photos or videos via MTP, they disappeared both from the smartphone and from the computer. As far as I can tell, it is a bug that appears only in the scenario where we move files to Android while the MTP connection is active. Therefore, to avoid unpleasant situations, while MTP is activated, do not move or modify files on the Android device.

The operations in which files can be lost are:

  • if you move files from your smartphone to an external device connected to Windows 10.
  • if you copy files, the process seems to work, but they never reach the location where they are sent, nor anywhere else. They simply disappear.

This problem has been reported on Nexus 6P, HTC U11, Nokia 6, Moto G5, OnePlus 3 and 5, Xiaomi Mi 6, Sony Xperia Z3 Compact and other Android devices.
